Dr. Clement Mulloy To Speak To The Historical Society On The Life And Work Of Vada Sheid

Dr. Mulloy on Vada Sheid new date

Dr. Clement Mulloy, Assistant Professor of History at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society on Tuesday, March 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Library.

Dr. Mulloy will speak on “Vada Webb Sheid and the Transformation of North Central Arkansas,” sharing information drawn from his research for an article published last summer in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly of the Arkansas Historical Association. His carefully-researched story of one of Baxter County and Arkansas’ most significant citizens will be summarized for us at our monthly meeting. We can anticipate an interesting and insightful story of a dedicated public servant who worked to make a better life for all of us in the beautiful region we call our home.

We will also have as our guest local sculptor, Ron Moore. Mr. Moore will informally share information about plans for a bronze statue of Vada Sheid he hopes to be able to create for permanent display in the lobby area of the Vada Sheid Center on the ASUMH campus. Ron Moore is the artist who created the bronze Veterans Memorial statue on the Mountain Home Plaza. He also has a bust of Abraham Lincoln on display in the Rotunda of the State Capitol Building, and other important sculptures.

The monthly meeting of the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the Knox Room of the Baxter County Library. The meeting is free and the public is welcome to attend.
